Producing the digital various artists compilation series ‘Geyser Lounge’ on his own label Geyser contributes to his pristine jazz/funk-inspired electronica style reaching from downtempo/trip hop to breakbeat- and house-related grooves. ‘Vol. 1′ contains twelve tracks by different artists partly known from the ‘Effusion 1′ compilation such as Krautiopharm, Pattysplanet, Schow, Manudub Soundsystem or Kat 5ive. The new artists on board are German trip hop producer Spied, breakbeat artist Sal(icious), Krautiopharm’s project Discodelic Orchestra, Japanese electronica artist Massa Takemoto as well as tho-ra’s downtempo project Little Picnic featuring twila.too.
Lounge! This musical style suffered from its own image for years. Music that owns the smell of boring stylish bars, hip advertisements or as music for driving in a manager’s car. The beauty and the idea besides the music were fallen by the wayside. If you dig deep in the beginnings of “easy Listening” you’ll find a very obvious definition for this music by Bert Kämpfert “Easy Listening is music that won’t hurt the listener…” If you take Lounge music as the logical follower of the handmade Easy Listening music you’ll maybe see this music in a new light. With the new Geyser compilation called “Geyser Lounge Volume 1” you get the chance to renew your opinion of this wonderful music. Twelve musical pearls dispersing a wonderful laid-back mood! But something’s new here; this is Lounge music that isn’t made as background music. The music is in the foreground and each detail of each track takes it own space at the “front” of the acoustic spectrum. Partially flavoured with fast beat this compilation becomes a direction sign with its path breaking way to reinterpret a known musical style by reinvent it again. Surely this is music that can be played in the background, but as an example would you waste a night with a beautiful person by cleaning your kitchen… This album is outstanding and so “rich”!
